What is Heartbleed?
Heartbleed affects encryption technology designed to protect online accounts for email, websites, instant messaging and e-commerce. Websites running certain versions of the OpenSSL software were affected. The vulnerability in the software could allow someone to see your user name and PIN/Password.

Why is Heartbleed a big concern?
Many companies use this technology to conduct business with you over the Internet. Below are a few sites where you can check to see if websites that you use are exposed or safe. (Please note that these are unaffiliated sites and Campus Federal is not responsible for the content or accuracy of the data.)


For sites which have been exposed, it is recommended that you change your PIN/password once the security patch has been installed.

Has my Campus Federal account information been compromised?
Although our Online Banking servers did utilize a version of OpenSSL, a patch has been installed in order to secure the information. There is no indication that any account information has been compromised.

What can I do to protect my information?
To protect yourself against any future risk related to this vulnerability, we recommend that you update your PIN/password for Online Banking.

How do I update my Campus Federal PIN/Password?
To update your PIN/password through Online Banking:

 Step 1: Login to Online Banking with your current credentials.
 Step 2: Select “Options”.
  Step 3: Choose “Change PIN/FAC Code”.
  Step 4: Create a new PIN/FAC Code.

If you do not remember your PIN/password, you can call us at 888-769-8841 or use the “Forgot PIN/FAC Code” feature on our website.

  Step 1: Go to campusfederal.org.
  Step 2: Log in to online banking with your member number and random code.
 Step 3: After you've answered your Security Question, you'll be directed to the PIN page.
 Step 4: At the bottom of the page, click the link, "Forgot PIN/FAC Code?"
 Step 5: Again, enter your member number and random code.
  Step 6: After you've correctly input the information about your account, you will be sent to the page that will allow you to create a new PIN.
  Step 7: Once you've entered and confirmed your new PIN, you can log in to online banking with this new PIN.

If my account has not been compromised, why are you recommending that I change my Campus Federal PIN/password?
The security patch installed protects against any Heartbleed related compromise going forward. While there is no indication that any account information has been compromised as a result of Heartbleed, we cannot guarantee that your current PIN/password remains secure. As a precautionary measure we are recommending that you change your Online Banking PIN/password now that the security patch has been installed. We also encourage PIN/password changes for any online accounts and profiles you may have with companies or financial institutions that have been affected by Heartbleed and have since rectified the vulnerability.

Are there any precautions I can take to reduce my risk in addition to changing my PIN/password?
Monitoring your account activity to verify there are no unauthorized charges is a good idea now and always. If you suspect any fraudulent activity, report it immediately by calling 888-769-8841. You can also clear the “cookies” on your computer web browsers and mobile device browsers.
