Internet Explorer Vulnerability

Microsoft Issues Fix For Major IE Bug

Microsoft released a security update for its Internet Explorer browser on Thursday, May 1, to fix a bug that allowed hackers to take over a computer. This patch will fix the issue, but Microsoft reiterated that users should upgrade to Windows 7 or 8.1, and to the latest version of Internet Explorer, IE 11. Customers who have automatic updates enabled won't need to take any action, but Microsoft encouraged users without that service to apply this update as quickly as possible.

Before the fix came in, Department of Homeland Security weighed in with an advisory on Monday, April 28, urging online users to use alternative web browsers and to avoid using Internet Explorer in light of the recent security vulnerabilities. This security flaw allowed attackers to potentially slip malicious code into an innocuous website, using a compromised file and can be used to steal personal data, track online behavior, or gain control of the computer.
