New Campus Marker Honors Longtime Support of LSU World War II Memorial
LSU recognized Campus Federal Credit Union today for its contributions during the Forever LSU campaign. Forever LSU: The Campaign for Louisiana State University, the most ambitious fundraising campaign in school history, publicly launched in June 2006 and concluded Dec. 31, 2010.
During the event at LSUs Memorial Tower, Student Government President J Hudson read the LSU Commitment to Community and presented a copy to Campus Federal; this presentation is the highest honor bestowed on an individual or corporation on behalf of the LSU Student Body. LSU Foundation President & CEO Bill Bowdon and Campus Federal CEO John Milazzo unveiled a marker of thanks, honoring Campus Federal and its employees, to be installed on the LSU World War II Memorial. Campus Federal routinely presents LSU with a new U.S. Garrison Flag to be flown over the Parade Ground on the War Memorial.
I like to say that winners invest in winners, and Campus Federal Credit Unions support of LSU is a perfect example, said LSU Chancellor Mike Martin. It was started by LSU employees and has served the University for 77 years by donating hundreds of thousands of dollars, volunteering countless hours, and mentoring and hiring our students. LSUs relationship with Campus Federal Credit Union is invaluable, and their support of Forever LSU has been vital to the campaigns success.
Campus Federal supports LSU departments and student organizations campus-wide, and its generosity spans all 11 LSU campuses in Louisiana. The organization recently committed to being the presenting sponsor for LSUs Rainmakers, or top research faculty, and last year was a major sponsor of LSUs sesquicentennial (150th) birthday celebration. Other initiatives Campus Federal has helped to fund are LSUs Teaching Enhancement Awards for outstanding faculty and campus programs that bring together the entire community, including Fall Fest, Campus Holiday Celebration and Volunteer LSU. In addition to the hundreds of thousands of dollars in monetary support Campus Federal has given, its employees have served LSU through volunteerism by mentoring students, staffing events, teaching financial literacy classes, and generally helping to further the mission of the University.
Attending the recognition event at Memorial Tower were Campus Federal CEO John Milazzo, COO Dawn Harris, members of the Board of Directors and senior managers, joined by Forever LSU Chair Congressman Henson Moore, LSU System President John Lombardi, LSU Chancellor Mike Martin, LSU AgCenter Chancellor Bill Richardson, LSU Foundation President & CEO Maj. Gen. Bill Bowdon, LSU Student Government President J Hudson, and LSU students, faculty and staff.
Forever LSU was a historic effort by the LSU community to attain more than $750 million in support for LSU by the end of 2010. The Campaign strengthened the Universitys endowment for scholarships, fellowships and financial aid; funded programs that enrich student life, endowed chairs and professorships; modernized research facilities and equipped laboratories; enhanced existing programs; and initiated and supported new academic opportunities on campus and in locations worldwide. To date, donors have contributed $753 million to Forever LSU, and an additional $34 million in state-matching funds brings the current total to $787 million. However, LSUs need for support through private funding has never been greater. To support LSU, pleasec visit www.foreverlsu.org.
