Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady University received $25,000 from Campus Federal Credit Union for an endowed scholarship that will be awarded to one undergraduate freshman from Cristo Rey Baton Rouge Franciscan High School each year.
“We are excited to celebrate tomorrow’s leaders with our annual scholarship gift for students from Cristo Rey Baton Rouge Franciscan High School who have chosen to attend FranU,” said Campus Federal President and CEO Jane Verret. “Supporting FranU’s education program contributes to a brighter future for young people in a meaningful way by educating them and preparing them to be leaders in our community.”
FranU Vice President for Mission Identity Sister Martha Abshire stated, “The Campus Federal scholarship is a wonderful gift to FranU. The scholarships given to Cristo Rey students provides the opportunity to not only grow professionally but continue their growth in our Franciscan values to be faith-filled community engaged citizens.”
The scholarship recipient must be a graduate of Cristo Rey Baton Rouge Franciscan High School, enrolled full-time in an undergraduate program and demonstrated financial need by completing a FAFSA. To retain the scholarship, the recipient must maintain full-time enrollment and good academic standing. The award is for a maximum of eight semesters towards a Bachelor’s degree.
President of Cristo Rey Eric Engemann concluded, “The commitment of Cristo Rey to our students goes beyond their high school graduation to ensure our alumni are supported during their path to a college degree. We are thankful for this generous commitment by Campus Federal to support a Cristo Rey student to attend FranU to help relieve the financial challenges some of our students face in pursuing their college education. Together, we can provide an opportunity for those who need it most.”
